Data Analyst - Business Intelligence National Office (24-40u)

We are looking for a data analyst with experience in SQL programming and tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, and other data engineering tools or coding languages, with a good understanding of the importance of data quality.

You will transform data sources to insights working in an interdisciplinary team with audit specialists. In your role, you will have great autonomy over how to get to the insights. The BI team is part of the National Office, the quality control department of Assurance. Therefore there is emphasis on quality over speed in the work you will do. PwC really invests in its workforce, so there will be ample opportunity for personal development in soft and hard skills.

You will be coached by an experienced data analyst - ideally you are consistent and fast with data. The exact hours, roles and responsibilities can be adjusted to individual circumstances, however, for a minimum of 3 days a week.

About the job

The Business Intelligence (BI) team at National Office is part of the Quality Improvement team and Real Time Assurance. The purpose of BI, in a nutshell, is to improve audit quality through data analytics on PwC’s own production data. The main goal of Real Time Assurance is to coach audit teams, help them to avoid making mistakes and let them solve problems before finalising their audits. In addition, the BI team helps various stakeholders within PwC to effectively achieve their goals, gain more insights and perform (academic) research.

Some of the things the current BI team of 9 people (1 Director, 6 (Senior) Managers and 2 Data specialists) has accomplished over the past years include:

  • developing and implementing Lighthouse, a dashboard automatically tailored to the portfolio of the user. This is shared with leaders of client teams, but also followed up via, amongst others, individual portfolio meetings with engagement leaders, and meetings with Quality Assurance partners of PwC business units, industry leaders, and Assurance Board members;
  • monthly Notifications to help teams identify and resolve unusual combinations of data before sign-off;
  • collaborate with the Real Time Review team, which is coaching teams with specialist knowledge, e.g. with criteria for risk-based selection, and exception reports about the engagements in scope;
  • deliver input for the firm's Audit Quality Indicators that are part of an integrated dashboard and reported on a quarterly basis to leadership, as well as KPI input for external distribution such as transparency report,  AFM monitor accountantsorganisaties;
  • Agile collaboration within the Dutch firm to further other quality improvement initiatives;
  • collaborate internationally with other PwC firms;
  • collaborate with universities for academic research, either through the foundation for auditing research (FAR) or in 1:1 relationships.

Global community and plans for future
A global community has been set up in which we contribute together with e.g. PwC Australia, Europe, UK, and the Nordics. There is plenty of data available and room for new ideas including more advanced ones such as analytics to predict going concern issues, or to predict the outcome of quality reviews.
Are you in for a challenge to help improve the quality of - not one at a time - but ALL active audit files at once?

Who are you?

You are passionate about data, consistent and fast. You take responsibility. In addition:

  • You have a completed master degree with a STEM profile (for example Mathematics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Physics).
  • You have experience in SQL programming and tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, and other data engineering tools or coding languages.
  • You have strong analytical skills, you are able to transform abstract ideas into practical solutions.
  • Your communication skills are sufficient and you have a proactive and self supporting work attitude
  • You are proficient in English, written and spoken, preferably also in Dutch - if not, you are willing to learn Dutch
  • You are able to work both independently, as well as in a team, with professional curiosity for new ideas. You are able to combine multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • You have sufficient empathy to understand others’ perspectives and to fit in the BI team - which includes data analysts and chartered accountants.
