Within this context, your core mission in this role is to support the SC Finance function with actionable insights and future scenarios based on the sophisticated interpretation and modeling of data. In doing so you help the Finance function (and other functions) to achieve better decision-making. As such, you must be able to ensure a proper translation of business needs to the data and models, and from outcomes into actionable insights that management can interpret effortlessly.

Functional Data Analyst

The role and its responsibilities
This highly influential role can be based in either Amsterdam or Arnhem, from where you act as liaison between a wide variety of functions and entities including the Finance Continuous Improvement SAP/BI team and IM.

Thus you manage projects for data extraction, validation and standardization, BI reporting, implementation and KPI definitions. In doing so you analyze available (historical) data sources, look into the data from different perspectives, and visualize the information, always ensuring the appropriate framework and build-up of data models and tools.

At all times you seek to detect patterns and highlight unusual data behavior, and perform root cause analysis. You then find the relevant indicators and develop models by which future behavior can be forecast.

Your work will have top management exposure so it is essential that you adhere to deadlines and high expectations regarding project delivery and quality. Thus cases must be rigorously analyzed, complete, non-ambiguous, and delivered on time and in full. Possible future scenarios – including scenario analysis – should be intuitive, attractively visualized and user-friendly in order to enable seamless decision-making.

In order to further enhance the success of analysis and modeling, you proactively search for other relevant data sources, and you develop and apply new mathematical, statistical, and econometric models. And, as a future-focused and result-driven Data Cruncher you must be willing to learn new techniques, methods, and tools, and quickly find any required information.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess all the following attributes:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Eonometrics, Informatics, or (Applied) Mathematics;
  • 3+ years of experience as a data analyst/scientist or consultant performing data analysis and modelling, including 2+ years of experience in visualizing data/models;
  • Experience of using statistical and data tools such as R and Spotfire is preferred, as is programming experience;
  • Excellent Excel knowledge and experience of SAP/BI (including Business Warehouse/Business Objects);
  • Ideally you have knowledge of and practical experience of statistics, machine learning, and forecasting models;
  • Excellent communication skills including the fluent English necessary to articulate concise and timely recommendations.
