Junior Portfolio Manager Insurance & Pension Solutions - Robeco

Robeco's Insurance and Pension Solutions team is part of the fixed income investment division and is responsible for managing fully customized client driven solutions across asset classes for insurers and pension funds globally, with a focus on fixed income.

Insurance companies and pension funds globally face considerable challenges: they are required to generate sufficient returns and meet unique risk, regulatory and sustainability requirements, all while operating in a world of low yields, market uncertainty and softening growth. The insurance & pension solutions team helps clients address these challenges by delivering truly bespoke investment solutions that are optimized based not only on a client’s specific risk and return considerations but also considering the local regulatory requirements and a client’s sustainability objectives.

The team employs a combination of solutions, quantitative and fundamental skills to design and manage these client-specific portfolios and is supported in that by a comprehensive set of proprietary tooling developed within the team. Extensive in-house fundamental and quantitative research both on markets and on sustainability and broad investment experience are at the core of each portfolio. The solutions that the team include LDI (liability driven investments) and customized credit / government bonds portfolios managed with a buy and maintain investment style and focused on for example matching cash flows, delivering an optimal yield, avoiding fallen angels and/or decarbonization.

The team currently consists of six members and cooperates closely with other departments within Robeco concerning the management and distribution of its strategies such as (regional) institutional sales, the insurance strategy team based in London and Hong Kong and other fixed income investment teams based in Rotterdam.

As Junior Portfolio Manager:

You will be working in a dynamic environment, experience a steep learning curve and acquire broad knowledge on multiple asset classes and on the global insurance & pension industry. You will work closely with the senior members of the team on a broad range of activities including the management of our client portfolios. As such you will be monitoring and assessing portfolio risks and following financial market developments daily. Developing a deep understanding of insurance & pensions clients globally will also form a key part of the job and will allow you to help in further refining and implementing new and innovative solutions. To enhance the management of our range of portfolios, you will be also responsible for developing and validating new front-office tooling. Furthermore, you will be responsible for delivering insights to our clients by creating presentation material together with sales and other team members and presenting to clients.

Your responsibilities on this field include analyzing new datasets, further automating our processes and portfolio construction. This means you will be involved in every single stage of our investment process.

Requirements

We are searching for a candidate who

  • Has an academic degree preferably in Data Science, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or similar quantitative field of study
  • Has 0-3 years working experience within investments, is fluent in English and ideally also in Dutch
  • Has strong modeling and programming skills (preferably in Python and VBA)
  • Is passionate about financial markets and can simplify and solve complex problems
  • Has excellent communication skills. You can explain a complicated issue in easy words, give recommendations based on clear logic and intuition, and convince stakeholders
  • Is a highly result driven team player with flexible and pragmatic mindset
